May Day Leaves 8 Tons of Trash in Jakarta

The demonstration in commemorating May Day on May 1 yesterday, leaving 8 tons of trash in the capital city. The trash is transported from road protocols, such as Jalan Sudirman, Jalan MH Thamrin, Jalan Gatot Subroto, and Jalan Medan Merdeka Barat. Considering the concentration of mass was centered at those locations.

We have sent 100 janitors to the field. They will clean up trash after demonstration

Head of Jakarta Cleanliness Department, Saptasari Ediningtyas said that the janitors immediately cleaned up the trash after the May Day ended. "We managed to pick up 8 tons," she told, Friday (5/2).

She detailed the transported trash on road protocol is reaching 6 tons, while 2 tons transported in other areas. Those areas are Pulogadung, Gelora Bung Karno, and etc.

Lack of Trucks, Garbage Piled in North Jakarta

While for today, her department has also sent 100 janitors on road protocol, because labors were still conduct demonstration in the capital. But its amount is far fewer or only 10,000 people compared to yesterday.

Based on the data of Jakarta Cleanliness Department, Thursday (5/1), a total of transported trash is about 5,000 tons. Its amount is lower than regular days which reached 6,000-6,500 tons.
